Man Jumps Into Lagoon In an Attempt To Evade Arrest
Suspect tries to avoid police capture by jumping into Lagos Lagoon
Allegations of theft led to a suspect, only known as Azeez, jumping into the Lagos lagoon in an apparent attempt to avoid capture by the police.
Speaking on the incident, State Police Command spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed that the event was swiftly reported to the Ikoyi Police Division on Friday, April 26 by the director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Hundeyin claims that at around 10:45 a.m. on the same day, the director got a call about the incident at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge.
When Hundeyin got to the scene, he told of coming upon a large group by the water's edge, where a body was discovered, lying still and recognized as the suspect's.
Hundeyin said: “The deceased was later identified the suspect as Azeez. He was later confirmed dead by paramedics of Pre Hospital Care, Lagos.
“It was discovered that one Elijah Amos, a seller of the cement, was pursuing the deceased before he jumped into the lagoon, because he was alleged to have stolen some bags of cement.”
Similarly, a woman was in a boat with eleven other passengers headed for the Totowu area of Ogun state when she suddenly took off her life jacket and dove to her death.
In addition, Friday's reports from the Lagos State Police Command stated that seven people died last week from drowning in different parts of the state around the state.
The varied aquatic environments in which these deaths took place—beaches, lagoons, and hotel swimming pools—indicate the pervasiveness of the water-related accidents.
