Israel-Iran Crisis: US, UK Impose New Sanctions Over Drone Assault
US and UK impose additional sanctions over drone attack in Israel-Iran war
Iran's latest drone attack on Israel prompted the United States and the United Kingdom to impose new sanctions on the country.
The UK Foreign Office has placed asset freezes and travel restrictions on seven people and six businesses, including those connected to drone and missile programs, while Washington has targeted 16 people and two entities that produce the engines for the drones.
As expressed by UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron during the G7 Foreign Ministers conference in Capri, our unified action underscores the clear and unambiguous denunciation of Iran's aggression towards a sovereign state.
The purpose of the UK's new Iran sanctions regime, which was implemented in response to Iran's hostile actions, was to enforce these restrictions.
The new intensification comes in response to Iran's direct attack, which involved over 300 missiles and drones launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, and Israel's request for international assistance.
Israel and its allies intercepted the majority of these.
Iran has defended the hit by claiming that it was carried out in reprisal for an alleged April 1 Israeli bombing that killed 13 people at its consulate in Syria.
The US sanctions target Iran's automotive and steel industries, which are connected to the Ministry of Defense and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as the country's drone program.
President Joe Biden reaffirmed the G7 leaders' resolve to put more economic pressure on Iran as a group.
The current actions taken by the UK add to the more than 400 restrictions already in place against Iran, the most notable of which involves the IRGC as a whole.
Following heightened tensions, the US, UK, and EU have taken these moves, which represent a concerted effort to counter Iran's destabilizing military activities.
