‘How We Used Cutting-edge Tech To Arrest Suspects Who Kidnapped ABSU Deputy VC' — Alex Otti
ACCORDING to Governor Alex Otti, suspects who kidnapped the deputy vice-chancellor of Abia State University, or ABSU, were apprehended by the Abia State Government using cutting-edge technology.
Emezue was liberated in February following an 11-day period of incarceration.
His release followed the Abia state Police Command's statement that he had been kidnapped in January at a filling station in the state capital of Umuahia.
Emezue's story took a disturbing turn when his kidnappers circulated footage of them torturing the professor and demanded a ransom of N35 million, threatening to kill him if the money wasn't paid.
However, his release from captivity wasn't without a price, as he had to undergo medical care in an unidentified hospital for injuries he had sustained while in captivity.
A tunnel used by kidnappers to carry victims into the forest was found in the Lekwesi town in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia state, adding to the growing alarm over the frequency of kidnapping in the state.
This discovery was made during an operation to recover two schools that kidnappers had taken over in the same village, which was overseen by government officials and members of Operation Crush.
