Father Detained For Impersonating Son During UTME

THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, reported that a man was detained for taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on his son's behalf.

This information was made public soon after Professor Oloyede visited a Kaduna State JAMB center.

Professor Oloyede expressed grave alarm over this new practice, saying that parental impersonation during exams has become a major problem for the board.

He stated that anyone who use deceptive practices should be aware that they have no positive outcomes and will face harsh repercussions, such as incarceration.

The Registrar emphasized the critical role that technology plays in preventing examination misconduct, pointing out that JAMB uses cutting-edge methods to identify and capture those who participate in fraudulent activity.

Also, Professor Oloyede brought up a crucial point about people having numerous National Identity Numbers (NINs), which compromises the accuracy of identity verification procedures.

He declared that in order to deal with this issue in its entirety, JAMB plans to work in conjunction with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Concerning missed tests, the Registrar vehemently declared that JAMB could not justify using national resources to accommodate a small number of students who did not show up for their exams.

The Registrar addressed concerns about missed exams and forcefully emphasized that JAMB cannot justify using national resources to accommodate a small number of students who were unable to show up for their exams because of their own carelessness or uncontrollable logistical issues.

As a result, JAMB is not liable for candidates—especially those registered through secondary schools—who experience setbacks or interruptions in their exam plans.

However, the Registrar emphasized the UTME findings' temporal validity, emphasizing that they are only valid for a year.
