EU Awards €1.8m To 6 Nigerian Universities For Green, Digital Skills Development
EU gives €1.8 million to six Nigerian universities to support the development of digital and green skills.
The European Union has allocated €1.8 million to each of six Nigerian universities under the EU-funded Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme.
Folosade Boriwo, the Ministry of Education's Director of Press & Public Relations, made the announcement about the grant, which is intended to improve advanced digital and green skills.
This funding is the result of an agreement that the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, signed at the Global Gateway High-Level Event on Education in Brussels, Belgium.
The following universities—University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), University of Port-Harcourt, Ebonyi State University, Federal University of Technology, and an additional university—are the beneficiaries of this effort.
The allocation of €1.8 million to each university will go toward programs that emphasize the advancement of advanced digital and green capabilities.
These initiatives are a portion of the 15 Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme Projects, which have received a total of €27 million in funding from the EU's Youth Mobility for Africa program.
The programs in question are HCE Solutions at the Federal University of Technology and UNN, CREATE-Green Africa at the University of Port-Harcourt, GENES II and ORPHAN at Ebonyi State University, and CB4EE and GREEN STEM at UNILAG.
Additionally, the Africa-Europe Youth Academy was introduced by EU Commissioner for International Partnership, Commissioner Urpilainen, at the Global Gateway High-Level Event on Education in Brussels.
This academy aims to develop leadership skills and networks between young people in Europe and Africa. It is a crucial part of the EU's Youth Action Plan in external relations.
The Team Europe Initiative on Opportunity-Driven Skills and Vocational Education and Training in Africa is a regional initiative that links vocational training programs with job opportunities created by Global Gateway investments, and it will also assist Nigeria.
