Delta Killings: Army Releases Delta Monarch Allegedly Involved In Okuama Massacres [PHOTO]
THE army has freed Clement Ikolo, a Delta state traditional leader who was detained in connection with the killing of 17 officers in the Okuama community.
Onyema Nwachukwu, director of army public relations, gave a briefing at Army Headquarters in Abuja on Friday during which she released Ikolo.
On March 14, while conducting a peacekeeping mission in the area, the army troops lost their lives.
Ikolo was listed by the Defence Headquarters as one of eight people wanted in relation to the murder.
The monarch then issued a statement pleading his innocence and turned himself in.
Ikolo asked the soldiers to search elsewhere for the criminals, stating that taking life goes against his Catholic faith and philosophy.
Ede Dafinone, a senator from Delta Central who served as a surety, received the monarch.
Nwachukwu stated that the senator's testimony about Ikolo's character was the only reason for his release, and it did not mean that he was cleared.
The following people have also been proclaimed wanted in connection with the murder: Akata David, Sinclear Oliki, Reuben Baru, Akeywiru Omotegbono, and Andaowei Bakrikri, a woman named Igoli Ebi; and Ekpekpo Arthur, a physics professor at Delta State University.
President Bola Tinubu and the military high command pledged that those responsible for the officers' deaths will face consequences.
