Deadly US Earthquake Strikes New York


THE original magnitude of the earthquake, which was recorded at 4.8, was felt throughout Bronx County and caused buildings to tremble.


The earthquake was felt by residents of New Jersey, Long Island, Virginia, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Philadelphia.


The FAA ordered ground stops at John F. Kennedy and Newark International Airports, but the New York Fire Department reported no immediate damage.


Assuring the public of her office's assistance in analyzing losses, New York Governor Kathy Hochul called the earthquake as one of the most severe on the East Coast in the last century.


Hochul stated, “This is one of the largest earthquakes on the East Coast to occur in the last century.”


The NYFD issued an emergency alert advising residents to remain indoors and call 911 if injured.


It is unknown how many people have died as of yet.


Similarly, the largest earthquake to strike Taiwan in nearly 25 years occurred on Wednesday, with a magnitude of 7.2.


As a precaution, tsunami warnings were sent out by Japan, the Philippines, and the Chinese mainland.


Taiwan reported 77 persons stranded in fallen buildings in Hualien county, along with four fatalities and 711 injuries.


The epicenter caused at least 26 structures to collapse.


Taiwan had not had such a powerful earthquake since 1999, when 2,400 people died.


Notifications were issued in Okinawa following the observation of a small tsunami on southern Japanese islands.


The largest manufacturer of cutting-edge microchips, TSMC, was among the semiconductor manufacturers in Taiwan impacted by the earthquake.


Residents were terrified, feeling the tremors all the way to Kinmen Island.
