Court Remands Binance executive in Custody In Abuja Over $35.4 Million Money Laundering
TIGRAN Gambaryan, an executive at Binance, has been remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center by a Federal High Court in Abuja, pending the outcome of his bail plea.
The order was issued by Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday, April 8, following Gambaryan's plea of not guilty to the money laundering accusations brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC. The judge then postponed the decision on his bail request until April 18 and the start of the trial until May 2.
Gambaryan has also been held by the anti-graft agency, which took over the case from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). A court warrant has been acquired to capture and extradite Anjarwalla, the escapee.
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL, the Kenyan government, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Federal Bureau of Corrections are working together to help the EFCC apprehend and extradite Anjarwalla, the fugitive who escaped from legal custody in Nigeria.
The EFCC brought five counts of money laundering allegations against Binance, the largest cryptocurrency company, and two of its executives, Anjarwalla and Gambaryan, after taking over the investigation into the purported financial irregularities.
