DAVIDO and seven members of his crew were reportedly taken into custody on Monday, according to a now-deleted article and social media post by K24 TV.

According to K24 TV, cocaine valued at Ksh18 million was discovered in his private jet, leading to their arrest by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Kenya Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), distancing itself from the report, labeled it as “fake news” on its X page on Monday.

On March 30 and 31, Davido had a performance at the Raha festival in Nairobi's Uhuru Gardens alongside other performers.

The Raha Festival is a vibrant event that unites people from all origins while honoring the range and depth of African music, art, and culture.

The hitmaker issued a statement disputing the report, “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls. I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of 'April Fools', and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation.”

The Grammy-nominated performer said that after finishing his planned performances in Uganda and Kenya in East Africa, he traveled back to Nigeria.

Davido went on to say that he has never been arrested for the offense in any nation.

He remarked, “I'd also like to note that no one in any country has ever arrested me for any crime. Not my home, Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I've made home throughout my career. Thank you for your continued support. Our blessings are from God. I love you all.”

Davido and his team members were arrested, but K24 TV reported in a tweet on Monday that this was not the case.

The media made it clear that the story was a part of “April Fool's Day, an annual celebration of practical jokes and hoaxes on April 1st.

The statement stated, “Nigeria's top Afrobeats musician Davido was not detained at JKIA after his Raha Fest performance. Kenyans are happy with him after he showcased his excellent skills in Nairobi.”
