17-year-old Kid Detained By Police In Bayelsa For The Alleged Murder Of His 14-year-old Girlfriend


THE Nigerian Police Force officers have taken 17-year-old Lucky Okubo into custody in connection with the possible murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Shallon Ebitare in Bayelsa State.


The teenager girl died in a hotel in Yenagoa, the state capital, and the Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Idu, ordered a covert inquiry into the circumstances, according to a statement made by the state's Police Command spokesperson, Musa Mohammed, on Friday, April 6.


Mohammed States that after being questioned, the suspect—who was caught by police officers working out of the Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters—confessed that he had brought the dead to a hotel with the intention of being intimate with her.


Mohammed stated, “The suspect claimed that the deceased went to the bathroom to take her bath but fell and she sustained injuries. Sequel to this, he invited the Hotel Manager who assisted him in taking the deceased to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yenagoa, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.


“The suspect is in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yenagoa while investigation continues with a view to ascertaining the cause of death.


“The CP has urged the general public to remain calm, vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the Command's control emergency numbers.”


Ahead of the state's council election, the Bayelsa State Police Command has reassured the populace of its dedication to maintaining social peace and security stability.


On Saturday, April 7, wards and eight LGAs in the state will hold their council elections.


According to a statement released by Mohammed, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu had made planned deployments of police officers and security professionals throughout the state's intricacies to avert any kind of electoral violence prior to, during, and following the election.


“The CP urges all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates and voters to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by the laws governing the process. The State Command will be collaborating closely with other security agencies, electoral officials and relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and credible election.


“The CP calls on all residents of Bayelsa State to exercise their civic duty by participating in the election peacefully and responsibly,” the spokesman said.
