US President Declares Easter Sunday Transgender Day
Joe Biden, the president of the United States, proclaims Easter Sunday to be Transgender Day.
Easter Sunday has been designated as a “Transgender Day of Visibility” by US President Joe Biden.
Established on March 31, 2009, the International Transgender Day of Visibility is observed annually on the same date.
The purpose of the day is to honor transgender individuals and bring attention to the ongoing discrimination they experience.
The US Constitution, according to the White House, supports Biden's proclamation.
As said by Biden: “Now, therefore, I, Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility.
“I call upon all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our nation and to work towards eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) advocacy has been a keystone of the Biden administration's policy initiatives since its start.
In his address, he took great pride in appointing transgender leaders to his administration and lifting the prohibition on openly transgender Americans serving in the armed forces.
Biden's transgender inclusivity events at the White House have not always gone as planned.
Regretfully, there has been a great deal of controversy surrounding his statement.
Social media users have criticized him over the statement, including well-known politicians, Christians, and celebrities like former US President Donald Trump.
“Biden is banning religious symbols from Easter celebrations at the White House, while flying the trans flag and declaring Easter Sunday to be “Trans Visibility Day,” Trump wrote on social media.
“This is the left's new religion. They want people worshiping the trans flag instead of God. They must be stopped.”
Some social media users, however, defended Biden by pointing out that the Transgender Day of Visibility is a set date.
“It has been March 31st since 2010. It never changes. Easter does,” a user wrote.
