Ikpeazu, Otti Government at loggerheads over purported $5 million investment

President Bola Tinubu's commissioning of Geometric Power in Osisioma has sparked a heated verbal exchange between supporters of former governor Okezie Ikpeazu and those of current governor Alex Otti in the Abia State media.

The central point of contention is the alleged 5% share that the Abia State government, through the Ikpeazu administration, acquired in Geometrics Power.

Ikpeazu's allies, such as Don Ubani, John Okiyi Kalu, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Enyinnaya Appolos, and Chinonye Mba, believe that the Otti administration ought to recognize and validate this investment. They claim that the state government paid $5 million for a 5% stake in Geometrics, with a large portion of the purchase made while Ikpeazu was in office.

They also accuse the current administration and Geometrics Chairman Professor Barth Nnaji of failing to recognize Ikpeazu's administration's contribution to the power project.

Governor Alex Otti's media aides, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Dodoh Okafor, respond by downplaying the rumored investments in Geometrics and claiming that the current administration has not received any documents pertaining to these transactions. Ikpeazu's camp is accused by Ekeoma of planning attacks against the current government, but Ekeoma brushes off their accusations as “primitive propaganda.”

In an interview with Channels TV, Governor Otti himself admits to being aware of the ongoing media discussion surrounding the purported 5% investment. Although he affirms that Ikpeazu signed a loan agreement for Geometric, he claims there is no proof of the purported 5% equity investment.

Otti gives the Accountant General and his Commissioner for Finance instructions to look into the situation more. He says Geometric would be in a better position to give precise information about the investment.

Overall, the argument underscores the political tension that exists between the current and previous Abia State administrations, as both sides are waging a verbal battle over the alleged investment in Geometric Power.
