EPL: Manchester City Defeated Spineless Manchester United In A Derby
Phil Foden with a brace...
Thanks to the star of the show, Phil Foden, who scored twice before Erling Haaland added the cherry on top, Manchester City easily defeated rivals Manchester United on Sunday in a derby filled with excitement.
Prior to their matchup next weekend, the 3-1 victory made sure they remained within one point of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The former Ajax boss was furious that City's equaliser was allowed to stand as he claimed Rashford had been fouled at the other end seconds earlier.
A minute before halftime, Haaland missed an open goal, a miss that will go down in Premier League chronicles.
With ten minutes remaining, Foden finished calmly and with a goal that ensured City would not lose the championship match.
To make up for his earlier error, Haaland then scored his sixth goal in four Premier League derbies against United.
Erik ten Hag's team is now 11 points outside of the top four with 11 games left in the season after suffering their 11th league loss of the year.
The former Ajax manager, who felt Rashford had been fouled seconds earlier at the other end, was incensed that City's equalizer was allowed to stand.
But after being utterly outclassed by their opponents for nearly the whole game, United could reasonably have few grievances.
This week, Rashford responded to those who questioned his commitment by going back on them.
The England international has spent the majority of this season playing like a pale imitation of the forward who scored 30 goals the previous year, but he gave a hint of his potential when he opened the score on the eight minute mark.
Bruno Fernandes layed the ball back for Rashford to smash in a spectacular long-range effort off the underside of the bar after City unsuccessfully appealed for an offside flag against him.
Pep Guardiola's team took control right away, but Andre Onana's excellent goalkeeping and some careless finishing held them off for almost sixty minutes.
The Cameroonian stopped Foden clean twice when he was clear through, and he also denied Rodri with a deft stop low to his left.
