Profiles Of The Binance Executives Detained In Nigeria
The two Biannce officials who are being held in Nigeria have been identified by their families
Anjarwalla, a 37-year-old national of Kenya and the United Kingdom, and Tigran Gambaryan, a 39-year-old American citizen and Binance's head of financial crime compliance, have been named as the executives.
At the moment, Gambaryan is in charge of Binance's investigations and financial crime compliance team. Prior to joining Binance in 2021, he worked as a federal agent for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the United States. The regional manager for Africa at the cryptocurrency company is Aniarwalla.
Their arrest is being made in the midst of allegations of manipulation in Nigerian foreign exchange trade, even though the reasons for their imprisonment are unclear.
Speaking about the senior officials' experiences on Tuesday, the executives' families stated that the two executives sat with representatives from Nigeria's national security agency, securities regulator, central bank, and financial intelligence division when they first arrived in the country in February, according to WSJ.
The two Binance employees were escorted back to their hotel, asked to pack their bags, and driven to a guarded house after the two-hour meeting, which left them believing that progress had been achieved.
Although the two men are permitted to use their phones while being watched over by guards, Elahe Anjarwalla, the wife of Mr. Anjarwalla, claimed that neither the men nor their families have been told about the purpose of the investigation.
Mr. Gambaryan's wife, Yuki, stated that she communicates with her husband by text messaging a few times a day when he is permitted to do so.
Elahe reported that on Monday, March 11, her husband started his Ramadan fast, and Mr. Gambaryan joined him out of sympathy. She revealed that Mr. Anjarwalla had conversations with his 11-month-old kid, whose birthday is the following week.
Binance continues to operate in spite of the CBN's and the federal government's plans to crack down on cryptocurrency trading. On its exchange platform, the cryptocurrency company has stopped trading the naira against the bitcoin and tether cryptocurrencies.
