To ascertain the cause of the deceased's death, the family of late musician Lerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has disclosed plans to carry out a separate autopsy and toxicology test.

Monisola Odumosu, the head of the family's legal team, revealed that the family intended to start the procedure by filing an application at the Lagos State High Court.

Dr. Richard Somiari, the director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Center, informed the coroner's court in the state's Ikorodu district on Wednesday that Mohbad's postmortem results will be available in the next three to four weeks.

However, Odumosu clarified that Mohbad's family voiced worries about the autopsy procedure and thought the government was moving too slowly with the test.

He added that when the post-mortem was being done, the family was not represented by any experts.

He remarked: “We filed an application at the Coroner's court on Wednesday to conduct our own autopsy and toxicology test, but the magistrate said he did not have the power to approve that and told us to approach the High Court.

“We are already preparing our document to go to the High Court so that we can ask for permission to organise our own autopsy and toxicology test. We have been planning this before now because we feel the government is too slow.

“They disclosed on a radio programme about three weeks ago that they were just about taking it to the US and that may take about 10 to 12 months and that is too long considering the fact that they had taken a sample from the body almost five months earlier.

“So why do we have to wait for so long a time? Then secondly, when the autopsy was being conducted, representatives of the family should be someone who is well informed on the issue of the autopsy; an expert that will confirm if it was properly done. But they just called anyone.”

Odumosu went on to say that the family wanted confirmation that the remains they removed from the deceased person's body was the same sample they submitted to the US for a toxicology test.

He further stated that the additional test would take place in the United States.

He said, “We are also planning to do it in the United States. Another reason why we took the decision was because for instance, if they poison someone, at a point in time, it will evaporate that no test can discover it. So we don't want to wait till when that has happened before we think of doing our test and discover that nothing was found.”

Mohbad passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, and the circumstances of his passing sparked debates on social media.

Mohbad, who was formerly signed to Naira Marley's record label Marlian Music, left the label in February 2022.

On September 18, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-person special investigation team to look into the death.

Along with other people, Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, nicknamed Sam Larry, were also arrested as a result of his passing.

On September 21, 2023, Mohbad's body was dug up for an autopsy to determine the cause of his passing.

Primeboy handed himself in two days after the authorities declared him wanted on October 4, 2023, during the course of their investigation.

In the meantime, Mohbad's father had declared in November 2023 that no one would be allowed to take his son's remains for burial without his permission.
