Kaduna Asks A ‘Popular Bandit Negotiator’ For Assistance In Getting Students Released

The release of 287 pupils and instructors who were kidnapped on Thursday morning in Kaduna from the Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, is the subject of ongoing negotiations.

An influential insider in the Kaduna State government attested to the fact that the government is working with a “popular bandit negotiator” to make it easier for the abductees to return. It is said that this negotiator has had success in previous kidnapping cases.

The kidnappings happened at 8:30 a.m., right after the school's morning assembly. Because of past security concerns in the area, the bandits reportedly stormed the LEA Primary School, which is currently home to the relocated Government Secondary School.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna paid a visit to the school on Thursday and gave the community assurances regarding the students' safe return.

“In my capacity as your elected governor,” Sani continued, “I am assuring you that by the grace of God, all the children will return unhurt.”

“This is a highly sensitive issue,” one official said. “We don't want the bandits to harm the pupils and their teachers, and we don't want to put the lives of the negotiator and the security operatives at risk.”

A meeting on emergency security was called by the governor on Friday. The specifics of the meetings have not been disclosed to the public.
