Dignitaries arrive in Isiokpo for the burial of Herbert Wigwe today, all set



Everything is now ready for the burial of late Access Holdings CEO Herbert Wigwe on Saturday in their hometown of Omueke in Isiokpo, Ikwere Local Government Area, Rivers State, along with his wife Doreen and son Chizzy.


The funeral service is being held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo, and dignitaries, visitors, and hundreds of mourners have begun to arrive.

Governor Siminalavi Fubara of Rivers State, Senator Douye Dir of Bayelsa State, and Godknows Igali, a former Nigerian ambassador to Scandinavian nations, are among the individuals who have arrived.


Olatunji Disu, the state commissioner of police, led security personnel to the location.


Also seated are clergymen, traditional chiefs from Wigwe's hometown of Omoeke, and monarchs from Isiokpo as a whole.


In the meantime, Isiokpo and the surrounding areas are seeing increased security.


His remains arrived at his father's compound in Omueke, Isiokpo at approximately 1:33 p.m. on Friday, escorted by a massive motorcade from the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in Ikwerre LGA.


Earlier, Wigwe's relatives had vowed to use long-standing customs to determine the cause of his death, but they also insisted that their son had to be buried in Omueke, his hometown.


Family members and friends attended the Christian wake held in the community on Friday to honor the deceased.


Wigwe passed away on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash close to a border town between California and Nevada, USA, along with his wife, son, and former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
