Luis Enrique unconcerned by World Cup, won’t rotate PSG squad

Luis Enrique dismissed World Cup workload concerns and won’t rest PSG players ahead of their UCL semi vs Bayern. Vitinha remains out, Nuno Mendes is back for Angers.

With a Champions League semi-final against Bayern looming, Luis Enrique said he won’t rest players for the World Cup...

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has no plans to go easy on his players before the World Cup as the Ligue 1 leaders aim to defend their Champions League title.

The French champions face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final next week, with the Spanish manager dealing with a squad hit by injuries all season.

Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz returned from a three-month injury layoff as a substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Lyon.

Portuguese playmaker Vitinha will miss Saturday’s match away at Angers.

PSG played in the Club World Cup last summer and reached the final, giving their players only a short offseason before a heavy workload over the past 18 months to two years.

Asked if he would manage his squad with the World Cup starting in June in mind, Luis Enrique dismissed the idea.

“I'm the Paris Saint-Germain coach, as for the rest, I couldn't care less,” said the 55-year-old, who coached Spain at the 2022 World Cup finals.

“I'm not interested in that. What I have to manage is the situation at Paris Saint-Germain. Everything else is very clear.”

Vitinha is dealing with a swollen heel that forced him off in the match against Lyon.

Luis Enrique said Vitinha’s heel is improving, but he’s still training individually.

Left-back Nuno Mendes has recovered from a thigh issue and is in the squad for the Angers match.
