International Friendlies: Finidi George Revealed New Super Eagles Formation

In Friday night's 2-1 victory over the Ghanaian Black Stars, Super Eagles interim head coach Finidi George gave an explanation for his formation change.

Six of the seven games the three-time African champions played in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire featured them in a 3-4-3 formation.

However, in the match against the Black Stars, Finidi changed to a 3-5–2 shape.

“We didn't keep the same (the 3- 4-3 formation at AFCON 2023), we played with a 3-5-2. At the AFCON, we saw only Victor Osimhen upfront and we felt he was doing so much alone,” the former winger remarked following the match.

“So I wanted some other players to do the job. At least pairing two players upfront. You see when a player gets the ball there is an opportunity to pass. We have to risk it but we have to get something going forward.”

The Super Eagles' next friendly against the Eagles of Mali will take place at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on Tuesday.
