Fire Engulfs Ogbo Osisi (Plank Market) In Anambra

Fire destroys millions of naira's worth of items in the Anambra plank market

On Thursday, March 21, a fire outbreak devastated the Ogbo-Osisi Plank Section of the Bridge Head Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, burning items and properties valued at millions of naira.

The source of the fire, which is still under investigation, was the plank market area across from Zenith Bank on Port Harcourt Road.

Social media videos show how intense the fire was as it consumed the market, leaving onlookers feeling defenseless.

In one of the videos, an anonymous person explained how the fire started and pleaded with other store owners to get there quickly.

The state fire chief of Anambra, Martin Agbili, hasn't, however, made an official statement about the incident as of the time of reporting.

This incident comes one month after a similar fire broke out in the Idemill North Local Government Area near the Afor Nkpor Market along Oraukwu Crescent.

A residential building as well as other stores were destroyed in the fire, which was started by a power surge in one of the market stalls.

Before state firefighters arrived, witnesses described their fruitless attempts to put out the fires using sand and improvised tools.

Residents became enraged over what they thought was a slow response, and stones were thrown at the firefighters, who fortunately avoided injury.

While there were no confirmed deaths, the tumultuous scene resulted in multiple injuries.

The fast-moving fire caused significant damage to a number of buildings and companies, including a salon, POS services, and supplies.

In the wake of such calamities, calls for government support reverberate across the society as impacted parties evaluate the amount of their losses, emphasizing the necessity of prompt action and assistance.
