Federal Government Bans Imported Syringes
FG and NAFDAC will ban syringe imports and encourage domestic production
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the federal government are working to prohibit the importation of syringes in an effort to support domestic product manufacture.
This announcement was released, on March 24, 2024, Sunday, via their NAFDAC X official account.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, underlined that in order to support the local economy, medical syringe imports into Nigeria must be stopped.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, gave additional backing to this endeavor when she visited the Ogun State syringe plant owned by Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies Limited.
The visit's goals were to support homegrown industry and solve the problem of inferior medical equipment imports.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the government's dedication to supporting indigenous businesses, stressing the significance of reviving Nigerian syringe production to guarantee the availability of high-quality goods and generate employment opportunities.
Prof. Adeyeye reiterated NAFDAC's position on stopping syringe import permits, focusing on local producers, and working with them to raise production standards.
Prof. Adeyeye stressed that increasing manufacturing will eventually lower costs, even if he acknowledged the early financial consequences of using locally produced syringes.
