Customs Seizes Fake Drugs valued at $1.7 Billion In Oyo-Osun Region

Oramalugo informed reporters that the command's revenue collection in February amounted to N5.6 billion, bringing the total amount collected in 2024 to N12.4 billion.

Fake drugs worth $1.4 billion in duty-paid value have been seized by the Nigeria Customs Service at its Oyo-Osun Area Command.

“Anybody carrying fake drugs is an enemy of the country; the seizures we have made are very huge.

“If we have allowed these fake drugs into the country, a lot of people would have fallen victim,” he said.

Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the area controller, informed reporters on Thursday in Ibadan that the medications, which were primarily antibiotics in sacks, might be more hazardous than ammunition and light weapons.

Oramalugo also informed reporters that 1,309 used tire fragments, 53 sacks of used clothes and shoes, and 345 (50 kg) bags of rice had been taken by the command.

34 cartons of illicit wines, 61 bottles of vegetable oil, and 344 (25 kg) kegs of gasoline were among the other items found.

The Customs Service will step up its efforts to combat smuggling and implement the Federal Government's policy of complete border closure, according to the area controller.

“We are committed to facilitating trade in essential commodities and supporting the Federal Government's efforts to enhance food security.

“All borders within the command's area of responsibility are still closed. We shall remain vigilant to prevent smuggling of items that could compromise the well- being of Nigerians,” he said.

Oramalugo further disclosed to reporters that the command's revenue collection in February amounted to #5.6 billion, bringing the total amount collected in 2024 to $12.4 billion.
