Jaylen Brown is adjusting to a major move. The guard who helped Boston win the 2024 NBA championship said he’s “still processing” being traded to the Celtics’ Eastern Conference rival, the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown shared his reaction on social media Thursday, saying: “I'm still processing how this all went down. I'm excited and disappointed at the same time.”
Several media outlets reported Wednesday that Brown is headed to Philadelphia. The trade sends him to the Sixers for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.
The NBA’s one-week free agency negotiating window means the trade can’t be made official until Monday.
Brown, 29, was named NBA Finals MVP after leading Boston to the 2024 championship.
Brown is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. His play helped keep Boston in the mix even without Jayson Tatum, who was sidelined recovering from an Achilles injury.
Questions about Brown’s time in Boston started when reports said the Celtics tried to move him to Milwaukee in a package for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo ultimately ended up in Miami instead.
“Saying goodbye isn't easy when you've put your heart into something,” Brown wrote. “I'm big on respect and actions speak louder than words. To the people of Boston, thank you.”

He also addressed the new fans and teammates in Philadelphia, a city where he’s spent years playing as the opposition.
“Every city has its own identity, its own passion, and its own expectation,” Brown said. “I respect that, and I'm looking forward to earning that respect the only way I know how - through the work.”
