African Games: Nigeria Takes First Place At The 13th African Games
Following Friday's end of the African Games 2023 athletics competition, Nigeria emerged victorious.
11 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals were won by the massive West African team.
It was the nation's fourth-best-ever showing at the African Games in its history.
Distinguished athletes like Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Ese Brume, and Tobi Amusan held onto their titles in the men's shot-put, women's long jump, and women's 100m hurdles, respectively.
Chidi Okezie made history by being the first Nigerian to win gold in the men's 400m in 37 years.
Amaechi Chinecherem Nnamdi, Pamela Obiageri, and Ruth Usoro, among others, also took home gold in their respective competitions.
While the athletes from Nigeria won a total of 32 medals at the African Games in 1995—15 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze—it was their best-ever performance in the athletics competition.
