NNPC Plans To End Fuel Shortage In 10 Years

Nigerians have been reassured by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited that the country's energy shortage will end within the next ten years.

Mele Kyari, the chief executive officer of the NNPCL Group, revealed this information on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the seventh Nigerian International Energy Summit, which took place in Abuja.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye of the NNPCL reassured stakeholders in a statement that the company is committed to collaborating with them to close the energy deficit gap and bring prosperity to Nigerians.

“From all indications, all issues of energy scarcity in the country would be over in the next 10 years,” he stated.

Assuring that the NNPCL would play a facilitator rather than an impediment in the international oil companies' divestment from onshore and shallow water assets in Nigeria, Kyari described the organization as the largest partner to all oil-producing companies in the country.

According to the head of NNPCL, NNPCL's job is to make sure that, in the end, there is optimal and sustainable production from the divested assets to guarantee energy security for the benefit of Nigerians, in accordance with its statutory mandate as the enabler of national energy security.

Also, Kyari revealed that the business is prepared to contribute to the proposed African Energy Bank in order to secure long-term funding for energy projects in Africa and ensure energy security.

“On investment in energy infrastructure to drive energy security, the GCEO further disclosed that the completion of the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben Pipeline was in sight as the tunnelling across the River Niger was currently ongoing,” the statement read.
