Nigerian Corps Member Slumps, Dies While Watching Super Eagles Vs. South Africa Game — Reports

Corps member passes away while watching the Super Eagles' penalty shootout in the AFCON semifinals.

According to reports, a National Youth Service Corps participant from Adamawa State passed away on Wednesday night during the penalty shootouts of the game between South Africa and Nigeria.

The corps member, from Kaduna State, known only as Samuel, is said to have died just prior to the game-winning kick that gave Nigeria the victory, according to reports.

A witness posted a description of what happened, on social media.

The message said, “We lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa at our sports viewing centre here in Numan.

“The corps member who is serving in Numan from Kaduna State fainted before the kick of the winning goal.

“He died before they could reach the hospital in Numan. May his soul rest in peace.”

However, Jingi Dennis, the NYSC Coordinator for Adamawa State, reported on Thursday that the corps member's deed was verified at the Numan General Hospital.

The late corps member told those around him that he did not enjoy watching penalty shootouts, according to his coworkers who accompanied him to the game. Then he bowed his head and fell suddenly to the ground.

“He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.”
