EFCC Invites School Owners Demanding Payments In Dollars
Private universities and other post-secondary establishments that take foreign currencies rather than Nigerian naira have been invited by the EFCC to a briefing. These institutions learned the value of acknowledging the naira as Nigeria's sole legal tender during the briefing.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against individuals who, particularly in Lagos and Port Harcourt, are mutilating naira and issuing invoices in dollars.
Politics Nigeria is aware that the action is being taken to stop the naira from plunging out of value.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC's spokesperson, revealed this on Wednesday in Abuja.
Oyewale further disclosed that the commission has called in owners of private universities and other higher education establishments that charge dollar fees for their presence.
He states that in order to enforce the laws that are currently in place against currency mutilation and the dollarization of the economy, the EFCC has also established Special task forces in each of its zonal commands.
Ola Olukoyede, the commission chairman, reportedly officially launched the task force, according to Oyawale.
He maintained that the task force was established to guard against misuses, leaks, and distortions that could subject the economy to instability and upheaval.
He restated the commission's dedication to upholding all legislation enacted to promote economic growth.
Oyewale said, “The EFCC has raised a special task force in all its zonal commands for the enforcement of extant laws against currency mutilation and dollarization of the economy.”
