Bolaji Agbede As The Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Bolaji Agbede is named Acting CEO of Access Holdings after Herbert Wigwe passes away

This statement comes after the passing of its previous Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe

The appointment of Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer has been announced by Access Holdings Plc.

According to reports, this is a prompt reaction to the unannounced death of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

Wigwe passed away on Sunday on a helicopter that the US Federal Aviation Administration identified as a Eurocopter EC130 that was headed for Las Vegas. The other passengers included Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), and his wife and son.

The announcement is said to have been made on February 12, 2024, by the Access Holdings Plc Board of Directors in response to a statement released on February 11, 2024.

Subject to the Central Bank of Nigeria's approval, Ms. Agbede, the most senior founding Executive Director in charge of Business Support within the organization, will assume leadership of Access Holdings Plc. This change represents a turning point in the history of the company as it works through the difficulties posed by an abrupt change in leadership.

Ms. Agbede has an impressive career trajectory in banking and business consulting services, spanning nearly three decades. Her background has given her a rich blend of expertise and strategic acumen.

She started her career in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank, where she rose through the ranks to become a manager by 2001. In 2003, she became the CEO of JKG Limited, a business consulting company. Her employment with Access Bank Plc began in 2003 when she was appointed Assistant General Manager, with oversight of the bank's chemical trading company portfolio. Her strategic acumen and leadership abilities brought her the role of Head of Group Human Resources at the Bank, which she held until 2022. After that, she was promoted to become the first Executive Director of Business Support at Access Holdings Plc, where she was instrumental in the company's culture shift and the effective integration of its business units.
