President Bola Tinubu has appointed Desmond Akawor as the federal commissioner of RMAFC

Desmond Akawor, the chairman of the Rivers State PDP, is named by President Tinubu as the state's representative on the RMAFC Federal Commissioner, while the Nigerian Senate confirms him.

The appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has been authorized by President Bola Tinubu.

The appointment is contingent upon the Nigerian Senate's ratification, according to a statement released on Thursday by the presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

Following the untimely death of the immediate previous RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple, earlier this month, the new commissioner is being appointed to represent Rivers State.

In addition to serving as Nigeria's ambassador to South Korea, Ambassador Akawor has held positions as the Federal Capital Territory's (FCT) minister of state, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services), and Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority.

The new Federal Commissioner has been tasked by President Tinubu with using his extensive experience across levels of government to implement a thorough process reform that would guarantee the most effective and fruitful use of the resources allotted to Nigeria's three tiers of government.
