'Students Will Pay More' - As The UK Increases Visa Fees To Nearly N500,0000

The UK Home Office reports that the price of a visit visa to the UK for less than six months has increased from £15 (14,592.70) to £115 (about N111,878.28).

This amounts to a rise of about 667%. The price of a student visa has also increased by 286 percent, from £127 (N123,537.58) to £490 (N476,677.59).

The increase will enable the government to pay for "vital services" and prioritize more funds for pay hikes for public employees, the administration noted. The review will take effect on October 4.

Following legislation being introduced in parliament on Friday, the UK government announced this in a statement titled "New visa fees set to take effect next month" that was posted on its website, gov.uk, on Friday.

The cost of the majority of work and travel visas would increase by 15%, the government stated in July. and a minimum 20% rise in the price of priority visas, study visas, and sponsorship certificates.

The statement added, "Income from fees charged plays a vital role in the Home Office's ability to run a sustainable immigration and nationality system. Careful consideration is given when setting fees to help reduce the funding contribution from British taxpayers, whilst continuing to provide a service that remains attractive to those wishing to work in the UK and support broader prosperity for all."
