Anxiety As Taraba Guber Verdict Set For Saturday By Tribunal

As the governorship election petition tribunal, which is sitting in Jalingo, the State capital, is about to issue its ruling, there is tension in Taraba State, particularly among the political actors.

The tribunal has finally set a decision date of September 30 to address the petition brought by the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and Professor Sani Yahaya, who would run for governor in the general election of 2023, against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Agbu Kefas.

The NNPP and its candidate for governor brought the PDP and Governor Kefas before the tribunal, claiming that the election was tainted by isolated instances of fraud.

Yahaya asked the tribunal to declare the entire process invalid and allow the state to hold new governorship elections.

Only two weeks have passed since both sides submitted their last written arguments to the tribunal, which is presided over by Justice G.A. Sunmonu.

Some people, particularly those from the PDP camp, have every right to be concerned about the impending judgment, according to several who spoke with our correspondent.

The party's spokesperson, Andeta'rang Irammae, said, "there is anxiety because of the current trends of dispensing justice in Nigeria.

"There is every reason to be anxious, but we are playerful and we believe God will see us through."

Some NNPP members confirmed that there is worry inside the party's ranks on their end.
