The government of Edo State has advised fuel retailers against stockpiling petroleum products. is an effort to raise goods prices and create a false sense of scarcity.

According to reliable sources, several petrol retailers in the state ceased selling the product after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said that the federal government's subsidy provided on imported petroleum products will end going forward. This was done in an effort to raise prices.

The government issued a warning that any gas station found to be stockpiling goods would have its landed property revoked in a statement by Osaigbovo Lyoha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The dishonest attempt by petrol sellers in the state to hoard fuel and feign shortage and price increases has caught the notice of the Edo State Government.

"As a responsible government that cares for her citizens, we shall resist this economic sabotage by every legal means possible.

"To this end, all petrol stations are ordered to immediately resume sales of the products to Edo people or risk immediate closure, and possible revocation of their property to enable others who want to do legitimate and respectful business in Edo State come and invest," the statement said.
