Oyo Governor Makinde Explains How He Lost 12% Of His Income Over The Past Four Years
On Sunday, May 28, Makinde explained the reason for the loss to newsmen. He claimed that governing the state prevented him from managing and concentrating on his own companies, which led to the loss.
He claims that, "Statutorily, you have to declare your assets on assumption of office and at the end of your tenure. Since one tenure is ending and by law I have to do the declaration of assets before assuming office for the next tenure.
"So, I came here to submit my end of tenure formfor the first term, asset declaration and also to declare my assets at the beginning of the second tenure.
"I believe that you are all aware of my declaration for the first tenure. I can tell you that in four years, I am poorer. I am serious because I have not really had the time to look after my business, I have been looking after Oyo State business and am not surprised that there were a bit of losses here and there, but I am still okay.
"It's actually about 10 to 12 percent poorer. The details of the loss will be made available to the public in due course.
On May 28, 2019, the governor testified before the Oyo State High Court that his assets were roughly N50 billion.
