INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS SPECIALIST: UK GOVERNMENT HAS NO REGARD FOR NIGERIA.
Ikiri Joe, a specialist in international relations, has said that the British government does not care about Nigeria.
Joe made this statement in response to the UK's reluctance to pardon Senator Ike Ekweremadu despite appeals for mercy from the leadership of the National Assembly, the Economic Community of West African States, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
If UK citizens had been detained in Nigeria, he claimed, Nigeria would have bowed to their demands.
Joe stated in an interview that Nigeria will take the recent incident as a lesson.
He said, "That decision shows the way Britain as a country and its institutions regard Nigeria.
"They do not regard Nigeria in any way and I'm sure from this event Nigeria as a country will learn a lesson.
"If it were British citizens that were arrested in Nigeria, and Britain pleaded for clemency, I'm sure Nigeria would have yielded. But for the case of Nigeria, they did not", he said.
