EPL: CHELSEA FACES RELEGATION AFTER LOSING SIX CONSECUTIVE GAMES UNDER LAMPARD
Frank Lampard, who took over as manager when Graham Potter was fired a few weeks ago, has lost all six games, including a 3-1 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday night.
The Blues have been demoted from the first division of English football six times, the most recent being in the 1987-88 season after losing a relegation playoff to Middlesborough.
They have been a constant presence in the Premier League until this season, which could end up being the worst in club history.
The Blues can still be demoted this season, despite having been defeated in 13 games and earning only 39 points from 32 games, sitting in 12th place in the table.
Based on their present form, their remaining matchups are frightening, with games against Bournemouth on May 6, Nottingham Forest on May 13, Manchester City on May 21, Manchester United on May 25, and Newcastle United on May 28.
Chelsea are only nine points behind 18th-placed Nottingham Forest, while Leicester City and Leeds, who are 16th and 17th respectively, are also nine points behind the Blues.
This means that if Chelsea lose all of their remaining games and Forest, Leicester, and Leeds all collect at least ten points from their final four games, the Blues will be relegated.
Bournemouth have 39 points, Wolves have 37, and West Ham have 34, and if they pick up at least more points to overtake Lampard's men, the west London club will be doomed.
In actuality, the Blues will almost probably remain in the top tier of English football next season.
With 39 points in the 2010-11 season, Birmingham City were the latest club to be relegated from the Premier League.
"We have to go there and show them we are ready and why we are where we are."
