UCL: REASON I LEFT KAI HAVERTZ OUT OF CHELSEA'S STARTING LINEUP AGAINST REAL MADRID - LAMPARD
Frank Lampard, Chelsea manager, has explained why he chose to keep Kai Havertz on the bench after Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio goals have put the Spanish giants in command ahead of the second leg at Chelsea Bridge.
Havertz is the Blues' top scorer this season, with seven Premier League goals and two more in the Champions League.
Lampard, who was just recruited to lead the club for the rest of the season, stated that he intended to make use of Raheem Sterling's and Joao Felix's added pace and dribbling abilities.
The former England international stated his desire to compete with Real Madrid's star-studded midfield.
"So I felt that we're strong in that frontline area of the pitch with Felix and Sterling.
"So it wasn't an easy choice for me," he said.
