SIX WEEKS AGO, CHELSEA WANTED LAMPARD TO TAKE POTTER'S PLACE

After losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of February, Chelsea reportedly thought about bringing Frank Lampard back.

After Graham Potter was fired last Sunday, Lampard finally made his way back to Stamford Bridge this week.

The idea of bringing the former Blues midfielder back, however, was initially brought up six weeks ago.

Chelsea wanted Potter to be a success, but Todd Boehly and the board began considering other options after the Blues' "abject" performance against Tottenham.

The idea of a caretaker manager started to take hold at that point because the club had previously utilized Avram Grant, Guus Hiddink, and Roberto Di Matteo in this capacity
