ROBBERS ATTACK A POPULAR PHONE MARKET IN ABEOKUTA, KILLING ONE

On Wednesday afternoon, some alleged dare-devil armed robbers assaulted the renowned Phone market in Abeokuta, also known as Tarmac, in a commando-style operation.

The armed bandits, numbering around eight, came at the Abeokuta computer village at 4:51pm, disguised and shooting intermittently to frighten bystanders, shop owners, and other consumers at the business hub.

According to Ifebola Togunwa, chairman of the Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association (MOPDATEC) in Ogun state, guys from the underworld divided themselves into four groups and invaded roughly six shops at gunpoint within an hour.

Togunwa, also known as Lobot, revealed that while the operation was taking place, members of the organization who are business owners all fled for safety.

While everyone was fleeing for their life, the culprits took away pricey phones worth around N14 million.

Confirming the event, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Nigeria Police operatives successfully repulsed the armed robbery group that attacked the renowned phone market.

According to the Police Spokesperson, the robbers were pursued and apprehended with the help of market men, which resulted in the arrest of one of the criminals, later identified as Adeniji Sakiru, 32.

Meanwhile, Frank Mba, the outgoing Commissioner of Police and now AIG, has requested that the suspect be moved to state criminal investigative departments for a quiet inquiry.

He, however, claimed that one of the phone vendors, Dayo Bankole, widely known as "Ebe," who joined in the furious pursuit of the robbers, was shot by them and died while undergoing treatment at General Hospital Ijaye, Abeokuta.
