I WANT TO BE NAMED AFRICA'S BEST PLAYER - OSIMHEN
Victor Osimhen has expressed his wish to be named African Footballer of the Year.
Since former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu won the trophy in 1999, no Nigerian footballer has won it.
Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Vincent Enyeama, and John Mikel Obi were among those who came close to winning the individual award.
Following an outstanding season for Serie A club Napoli, Osimhen has been tipped to win the prize.
The 24-year-old has scored 21 goals in 23 league matches to help the Partenopei win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.
In addition, the attacker has four goals in five UEFA Champions League appearances.
"I am not going to lie. It would be my dream to be African Footballer of the Year. I was at the ceremony in 2015, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won the award. As an African you dream of this prize and maybe I can win," Osimhen declared in an interview with the Daily Mail.
