EPL: MERSON IS ASTONISHED BY CHELSEA'S CHOICE TO SELL THEIR 'BEST' PLAYER AND WANTS LAMPARD FIRED
Paul Merson has requested Chelsea to allow Frank Lampard to depart Stamford Bridge as soon as possible.
Merson stated that there was no reason to keep the former England manager after the squad was eliminated from the Champions League.
The former Arsenal midfielder also bemoaned Chelsea's choice to sell Mason Mount in the upcoming transfer window.
Merson wants Chelsea to choose a new manager as soon as possible, with Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, and Mauricio Pochettino all in the running.
Merson is also astonished that the Blues' owners are willing to let Mount go this summer.
Mount is in the final year of his contract with the club and has piqued the interest of a number of other clubs.
"They need to get the new manager now. They need to sort this out now," Merson told Sky Sports.
"This is no disrespect to Frank Lampard but they've got to choose their next manager and get them in.
"Frank was there for the Champions League games and that's over now.
"But one of the players who's supposed to be going is Mason Mount, he's one of their best players. That can't happen in my opinion."
