GOWON MUST APOLOGIZE TO IGBOS BEFORE THE ABIA PRAYER SESSION, ACCORDING TO THE PDP

Former Military Chief of State, Yakubu Gowon, has been charged by the Abia State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Gowon is expected to apologize to the people of the Southeast for his role in the Biafra civil w*r.

According to Abraham Amah, the party's interim State Publicity Secretary, Gowon's name unnerves many people in the Southeast because of his involvement in the Civil W*r.

Amah was responding to a declaration that Gowon and the state's newly elected governor, Alex Otti, will host a prayer session in the state on Sunday.

The prayer session will take place at Master's Vessel Church in the Umuahia district of Abia State.

Nonetheless, Amah expressed concern about Gowon's selection as Special Guest, adding that he was not opposed to praying for the state.

Amah's statement reads: "The attention of the Abia PDP has been drawn to a news item in circulation on social media indicating that Nigeria's former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon would on Sunday April 23, 2023 lead a prayer session in one Master's Vessel Church Umuahia, Abia State under the auspices of his pet project, Nigeria Prays, to herald a new Abia. Whatever a new Abia' means.

"The name, Yakubu Gowon is unsettling to many people in the South East given the ignoble roles he played during the Biafran Civil W*r for which he is yet to render any public apology."

Amah criticized the appointment of Gowon as a distinguished visitor in a state where slain General Aguiyi Ironsi was born.

The PDP expressed surprise that no other man of God was invited to the prayer session, noting that Abia State had produced a Catholic Bishop and several high-ranking pastors.

The party's state organization emphasized that Gowon had yet to publicly recognize his mistakes during the Civil W*r.

"The only way the prayer session would make meaning to the millions of South Easterners, dead and alive, is for Gowon to use the opportunity of the prayer session and convert it to a moment of truth and apologise to the people for his role in the atrocious war that led to the untimely death of millions of our very resourceful people," he added.
