Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, says he is not surprised by Sadio Mane punching his Bayern Munich teammate.

The incident occurred following their 3-0 first-leg Champions League quarter-final loss to Manchester City.

Sane was later photographed with a bruised lip, while Mane was suspended and fined by the Bundesliga winners.

"That's football, I'm not surprised at all.

"I know it makes headlines but if something doesn't go right on the football pitch, questions get asked, sometimes arms get raised, voices go to a higher pitch and that is part and parcel," Ferdinand said on BT Sport on Wednesday.
