TENSION SURROUNDING A POSSIBLE ATTEMPT TO DETAIN RUNNING MATE PETER OBI IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
According to reports, Obi, who through his campaigns in late 2022 inspired many young and first-time voters, finished third in the presidential election, trailing only the winner, ruling party leader Bola Tinubu, and the leader of the main opposition, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Obi and Atiku, who vowed to go to court to challenge Tinubu's victory after alleging that the electoral umpire had been compromised to rig the results, had previously called for the results to be annulled.
On March 2, at a global press conference in Abuja, Obi claimed that the election had been scripted to produce a specific result.
The election, according to Obi, did not meet the requirements and could not be deemed credible, despite the fact that there is evidence that points to his victory.
Obi contends that the election that produced Tinubu was not a good one and that the former governor of Lagos is not deserving of the title of excellence.
Similar to this, Datti, Obi's running mate, insisted on Wednesday that Tinubu cannot be sworn in as the nation's president.
Datti claimed that swearing in Tinubu would be "as good as swearing in a military regime" in an interview with Arise Television.
The vice presidential candidate claims that a constitutional violation occurred during the presidential election that resulted in Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, being elected president.
According to MON DIARIES, tension over alleged efforts to arrest Obi and Datti began to rise when veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo raised the alarm and claimed that plans were afoot to have Obi arrested.
The minister claimed in a petition dated March 23 and addressed to the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, that in a post-election period like this, it is important to calm frayed nerves, bring down the temperature, and start the healing process.
The veteran actor wrote on Instagram: "Peter Gregory Obi will soon be arrested. Watch Out. The conspiracy is brewing, you want to bet?"
He questioned why Keyamo and his allies did not demand the arrest of Musiliu Akinsanya, a former Lagos State NURTW chairman also known as MC Oluomo, who is accused of inciting religious violence during the state's gubernatorial elections.
He stated: "Keyamo, the so-called patriotic citizen, didn't report MC Oluomo who told Igbos not to vote in Lagos.
"After the shameful Chatham House appearance, his principal was recorded telling key supporters to fight, snatch, grab and run with ballot boxes which was exactly what happened in the elections. Why didn't Keyamo the 'Patriotic citizen' report to the DSS.
"Keyamo is just making baseless accusations, he's a known Rabble rouser and chatterbox who doesn't want to lose political relevance before his paymaster who has now seen him for what he is, which is a political paper weight, who has achieved nothing as a minister except posting fake news to rile up the polity on social media."
According to Okoh Marcus, an activist and ardent supporter of Peter Obi, who also spoke with reportets, any attempt to arrest Obi will ignite the entire country.
He said, "Nigerians are already fed up with all these unending issues from these old politicians who want to impose themselves on us.
"Any attempt to arrest Obi will not go well with Nigeria. Let somebody try to touch that man, that is when the anger in us will come out. They should stop that rubbish.
"If not for the case in court that has calmed Obidients, by now 'EndSARS promax' would have started".
When contacted, Peter Afunnanya, a DSS spokesperson, declined to comment.
