SANWO-OLU IS DECLARED THE WINNER OF THE LAGOS GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION BY INEC

Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Independent National Election Commission, INEC, has announced Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the victor of the Lagos State governorship race.

Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, received 762,134 votes, defeating the Labour Party's Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

The LP candidate received 312,329 votes, while Abdulazeez Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, received 62,449 votes.

The Returning Officer, Prof Adenike Temifayo-Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, announced the results.

There were 1,155,678 valid votes, 17,953 rejected ballots, 1,173,631 total votes cast, and 1,182,620 accredited votes.

Prior to the declaration, Rhodes-Vivour declared the election a fraud, "collusion between the ruling party and electoral officials."

What the people saw, according to the flagbearer, was, "a slap on the face of democracy" and everyone who came out to vote for the LP on Saturday.

Mrs. Dayo Ekong, the LP Chairman in Lagos, has urged INEC to cancel the election, citing electoral malpractices, intimidation, and violence, among other things.
