Tottenham striker Harry Kane has surpassed Wayne Rooney's record to become England's all-time leading scorer.

The Tottenham striker was tied with Rooney for the lead in goals (53), going into Thursday night's match against Italy.

However, the Italy defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo was found to have handled the ball inside the box in Naples, and the England captain subsequently scored his world-record goal from the penalty spot just before halftime. This resulted from a VAR intervention.

Kane has surpassed Rooney's 53 goals in 120 appearances by scoring his 54th goal in just his 81st appearance for the Three Lions.

Bobby Charlton (49 goals in 106 appearances), Gary Lineker (48 goals in 80 appearances), and Jimmy Greaves (44 goals in just 57 appearances), who round out the top five goal scorers for the three Lions, have previously been surpassed by Kane.
