BRAZILIAN OFFICIALS WITHDRAW GABRIEL FROM THE TEAM, AND ARTETA RESPONDS

Mikel Arteta

The departure of Gabriel Magalhaes from Brazil's World Cup roster in 2022, according to Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, is disappointing.

Arteta has, however, urged the defender to use it as motivation to "improve", so he could "be ready" for the next tournament.

However, Gabriel's teammates from the Emirates, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, also made the cut.

Instead of calling up Gabriel, Selecao manager Tite chose to call up Thiago Silva, Gleison Bremer, Eder Militao, and Marquinhos.

"For Gabi, it is a disappointment, but when you look at the squad that they have and the experience they have in that position, you have to understand that and it's another challenge for him.

"He needs to be ready for the next one, he needs to improve and carry on with the good things that he's been doing," Arteta said.

On November 24, Brazil takes on Serbia to open the season. They then play Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G.
