Many people are trapped after a seven-story building in Lagos collapses

A seven-story building under construction on Oba Idowu Oniru Street in Lagos State has collapsed, trapping approximately six people.

Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident in the early hours of Sunday.

"Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an unfinished 7-story building under construction was discovered to have collapsed," he said. Although no one was hurt, six people are said to be trapped beneath the rubble of the collapsed structure.

"The rescue of the trapped victims will necessitate the use of the agency's heavy-duty equipment excavator." The Lagos State Response Plan has been activated. "Operation is still ongoing."
