MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET: THERE HAS BEEN NO AGREEMENT WITH TINUBU - CAN
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied reports that it has reached an agreement with All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu on the party's Muslim Muslim ticket.
CAN stated that its opposition to a presidential ticket of the same faith cannot be compromised.
According to reports, CAN changed its mind about the same-faith presidential ticket after meeting with Tinubu and his campaign team.
However, CAN described the reports as malicious and false, and they should be ignored.
The Christian organization stated that it respects politicians' and political parties' rights to make decisions that affect their electoral fortunes.
CAN reiterated its nonpartisan status, but stated that it is willing to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure the country's unity.
Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, stated in a statement: "The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has been drawn to a media report titled, 'How Tinubu met, resolved Muslim-Muslim ticket with CAN,' which claimed that the apex Christian body's position on the same-faith ticket had changed.
"To put it mildly, the story is ridiculous, malicious, and untrue, and it should be ignored in its entirety by all reasonable members of society.
"For the record, CAN took a stand against the same-faith ticket saga under the leadership of Rev. Dr Samson Ayokunle, its immediate past national president, and His Eminence Archbishop Daniel Okoh still does."
