TRANSFER: 'ANTONIO RUDIGER WANTED TO STAY AND BECOME CHELSEA'S CAPTAIN' - RUBIE

Anthony Rudiger

Antonio
Rudiger's agent revealed that the German defender wanted to stay at Chelsea and become the club's captain.

However, he added that the Blues made little effort to keep the Germany international.

This was revealed to TALKSPORT by Saif Rubie, who was involved in the deal to bring Rudiger to LaLiga giants Real Madrid after his Chelsea contract expired.

"What if I told you Chelsea, and the old regime, made next to no effort to keep the player?" Rubie said.

Chelsea let Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Marcos Alonso leave this summer, and captain Cesar Azpilicueta was on his way to Barcelona until new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly intervened and blocked the deal.

"He was content to stay and potentially become the club's captain at the time. He was offered a contract worth half of what Romelu Lukaku was earning "He continued.
