FOUR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WERE ARRESTED AFTER THEY CLEARED THEIR LATE COLLEAGUE'S BANK ACCOUNT
Nasiru Samaila, a staff member of the Bauchi State Ministry of Finance, and three others were arrested by state police for allegedly clearing their late colleague's bank account.
The three other suspects are Auwal Jibrin, 27, of the Ministry of Finance, Tijjani Mohammad, 27, of state low-cost Bauchi, and Faruq Mohammad Nasiru, 19, of ATAB Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Finance.
According to reports, the suspects were apprehended after a complaint was filed by one Samira Jibrin, a next of kin to Jibrin Adamu, of Zalanga, Ganjuwa LGA, who worked for the Bauchi State Ministry of Finance until his death on December 2, 2021.
She reported on Tuesday afternoon, September 6, that she went to the Bauchi Ministry of Finance to process her father's benefit but discovered that the benefit of her late father had been processed and withdrawn by some people using forged documents.
According to SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), preliminary investigation revealed that Nasiru conspired with the three other suspects to selfishly and mercilessly forge documents and access the sum of N332,000 belonging to the deceased and convert it to their personal use on Monday, September 12.
"Investigation revealed that the said Nasiru Samaila, who used his 17 years of ministry experience and devised the heinous idea of forging documents to claim the deceased's benefit at the expense of the deserving next of kin, received N212,000.00.
Auwal Jibril, a serving staff member of the said ministry, received N100,000 as his share, while Tijjani Mohammed, a cybercafé operator, and Faruq Mohammed, an IT student from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic attached to the said Ministry, received N20,000 each.
All of the suspects admitted to playing an active role in the crime's commission. "A total of N320,000 has been recovered from the suspects," according to the statement
